Uttarakhand: Action will be taken after medicine samples fail, drug factories will be checked across the state, establishments will also be tightened

Recently, samples of 14 medicines in the state have failed the test. After which the Food Safety and Drug Administration is going to conduct a thorough investigation of all the drug stores and drug factories in the state. An intensive inspection campaign will be conducted on drug manufacturing and sales establishments.

Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Dr. R Rajesh Kumar has asked the drug inspectors to jointly conduct a strict investigation on all the drug stores and pharmaceutical companies of the state. In this regard, Additional Commissioner and Drug Controller of the department Tajbar Singh Jaggi said that under the campaign, samples of medicines will be collected from drug stores, warehouses and factories. Which will be sent to the state analyst for investigation. On the basis of the report received from there, if any medicine is found to be lacking in quality, then strict action will be taken against the concerned establishment.

Till now the department has conducted a joint raid campaign: Drug Controller Tajbar has claimed that in some cases it has also been found that some anti-social elements from outside the state are illegally using the name of pharma companies of Uttarakhand. They are manufacturing fake medicines. He said that the department, taking cognizance of the matter, has jointly raided with the Drug Controller General of the Government of India and the Drug Controllers of states like Telangana, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh. 53 cases registered so far, 89 arrests: He said that more than 53 criminal cases have been registered under the action taken from 2023 to 2025. A total of 89 accused have been arrested in these. In which many interstate people were also included. The Drug Department conducted more than 83 joint raids. Due to this, orders were issued to stop production to 33 drug manufacturing units. Apart from this, more than 65 people have been identified and action has been taken against them in cases related to fake medicines under the NDPS Act.
