60 percent of citizens in Bihar do not need to provide documents – Election Commission

This facility of availability of Bihar’s 2003 electoral roll will greatly facilitate the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar as now about 60 percent of the total voters will not have to submit any document. They will only have to verify their details from the 2003 electoral roll and submit the filled counting form. Both voters and BLOs can easily access these details quickly.

The Election Commission said that a person whose name is not in the 2003 Bihar electoral roll can also use the relevant part of the 2003 electoral roll instead of providing any other document for his or her mother or father. If a citizen’s name is not in the 2003 electoral roll, but his or her mother’s or father’s name is included, then he or she does not need any other document. Only the relevant part of the 2003 electoral roll will suffice.

According to the Commission, revision of electoral rolls is required before every election as per section 21(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and rule 25 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
