Supply from Giri-Gumma stopped, water crisis in the city
The drinking water crisis in the capital has deepened. The city’s biggest drinking water project Gumma has come to a standstill due to silt caused by heavy rains. According to the drinking water company, silt has come in Gumma due to heavy rains. This project with a capacity of 22 MLD is closed since 8:00 am on Sunday. In Giri also, only two pumps were running instead of four on Sunday. Pumping could not start in the Churrat project till 7:00 pm late in the evening. Due to silt from Koti Barandi, the water supply for the city has been reduced to half. On the other hand, the pumping station of the booster stage of Chaba project is filled with water. Due to the rising water level of Sutlej, there is a danger of it getting submerged. However, these days water is not being lifted from this project for the city. The drinking water company says that due to heavy rains, silt has accumulated in the projects. The amount of silt is reaching 1800 NTU. Due to this, the water supply has had to be stopped.
Water crisis deepens in these areas of the city
Water did not come in Sangti, Navbahar, Malyana, Bhattakufar, Dhingudhar area of Sanjauli zone of the city on Sunday, the third day as well. People have not got water for the third day in Kaithu, Bharari, Calston area of Central zone as well. Water was supplied in the morning in Chota Shimla zone, but the tanks got empty after a few minutes. Water reached only a few buildings in Khalini. After this, the supply stopped. Water has not come in Kanlog, Nigam Vihar, Lower Khalini, Jhanjhiri etc. areas of this zone even on the third day. Now people may have to wait for water on the fourth day on Monday.
Monsoon rain wreaks havoc in Seraj
The first rain of monsoon has caused heavy devastation in Janjheli sub-division of Mandi district. 14 major roads of Public Works Department (PWD) Division Janjheli have been damaged due to landslides and crust, badly affecting the traffic system. According to preliminary assessment, the restoration of these roads will cost around Rs 55 lakh.
The affected roads include important roads like Mandi-Chail-Janjheli, Lambathach-Shilbagi-Kalhani, Thunag-Kelti-Jainshla, Thunag-Banyad-Mandehlu, Shiva Khad-Spehnidhar, and Jarol-Dhanyar. Traffic has come to a complete standstill on these roads due to landslides and debris at various places. The most damaged road has been Mandi-Chail-Janjheli (Rs 12 lakh) and Lambathach-Shilbagi-Kalhani road (Rs 9 lakh).
Local residents have demanded the administration to take immediate steps to repair and restore the roads so that normalcy can be restored in the area. PWD officials say that they are doing a detailed assessment of the damage and the work of opening the roads has been started on priority basis.
With the onset of monsoon, such incidents expose the weaknesses of the infrastructure in the area. Experts believe that better technology and planning is needed in the construction and maintenance of roads to deal with such disasters in future.

According to the information, Surekha Devi, Anu Devi and Kamlesh Devi of Daslu village of Lambagaon Panchayat had left their buffaloes in the Beas river two days ago for grazing as usual, but the buffaloes have not returned home for three days. On Monday morning around 10 o’clock, when these three women were searching for their buffaloes in the Beas river, at that time there was water only on one side of the Beas river. But in a short while, the water level of the Beas river increased and there was a strong flow of water on the other side as well. These three women got trapped in the middle of the island in this flow.
Some person from the village saw them stranded on an island in the middle of the water and informed the local Halka Patwari Ashwani Chadak. As soon as the Halka Patwari got the information, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jaisinghpur was informed. As soon as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jaisinghpur got the information, he reached the spot with his team along with the Halka Revenue Officers Ashwani, Sanjeev and Manoj. After a rescue operation that lasted for three hours, all three women were safely evacuated by boat around one o’clock.
