To deal with disasters like floods, waterlogging and landslides during the rainy season, the Dehradun district administration conducted mock drills at four different places on Monday. This exercise was conducted simultaneously at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh, Keshavpur Basti in Doiwala, Shakti Canal in Vikasnagar and Sapera Basti in Adhoivala.

The mock drill started at 9 am at the District Emergency Operations Center, when floods and waterlogging were reported from these four places. District Magistrate Savin Bansal immediately activated the Incident Response System (IRS) and directed all nodal officers to start rescue operations.

On receiving information about a person being swept away due to rising water level of the river at Triveni Ghat Rishikesh, the NDRF and Water Police team reached the spot and rescued him. The person was safely taken to the hospital and people were removed from the river bank. At the same time, due to the rising water level of the Song river at Doiwala Keshavpur Basti, three houses were flooded. The administration immediately started relief and rescue operations and took the affected people to the relief camp.

Three people swept away on Shakti Canal

On receiving information about three people being swept away on Vikasnagar Shakti Canal, SDRF and NDRF teams acted swiftly and the injured were taken to the hospital in 108 ambulance. At the same time, on receiving information about rainwater entering the houses and a house being damaged at Adhoivala Sapera Basti, the administration immediately sent a rescue team and took the people to a safe place.
