Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday participated in the Space Technology and Application Space Conference 2025 in the perspective of Himalayan states for the creation of Developed India 2047 at Mukhya Sevak Sadan located at the Chief Minister’s residence. ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan was present as a special guest on this occasion. Welcoming the scientists and participants from across the country on this occasion, the Chief Minister said that this conference will prove to be a milestone in realizing the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji to ‘Developed India @ 2047’.

The Chief Minister said that today space technology is not limited to research but is playing an important role in the development of communication, agriculture, weather forecasting, disaster management, education, health and infrastructure. He congratulated all the scientists including ISRO on the hoisting of the tricolor by Indian scientist Shubhanshu Shukla at the International Space Station and called it a proud moment for the country. The Chief Minister said that Shubhanshu Shukla’s mission will lay an important foundation for Gaganyaan and future space missions.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister launched the dashboard developed by ISRO and UCAST to make Champawat a model district and also released a book published by ISRO. He said that the Uttarakhand government is determined to promote science and technological innovation and work is going on at a fast pace on the establishment of Science City, Science and Innovation Center, AI, Robotics, Drone and other state-of-the-art laboratories in the state. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that this conference will play an important role in making Uttarakhand a “space technology friendly state” and will prove to be helpful in the sustainable development of the state. ISRO Chairman Dr. V Narayanan said that India launched the first rocket in 1963. Since 1963, India has launched more than 100 rockets. Till 1975, we did not have any satellites of our own, but now India has 131 satellites of its own. Satellites are proving to be helpful on a large scale everywhere, from TV broadcast to everywhere else. ISRO is working on the Human Space Program. Work is being done on the rocket that will launch a satellite weighing up to 75 thousand kg on the lower orbit of the Earth, which will be completed in about 27 days.

ISRO Chairman said that there was a time when our rockets used to be carried on bicycles, but today India has set many world records. We have detected the presence of water molecules on the moon for the first time in the world. India is the first country to land on the South Pole of the Moon for the first time. India has become the fourth country to study the Sun with the Aditya L-1 mission. India entered the orbit of Mars in the first attempt itself and is the fourth country to send a satellite to the orbit of Mars. Our goal is to build our space station by 2030 and send astronauts to the Moon by 2040. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are setting new records. Under his leadership, India will definitely become a developed India by 2047.

Director National Remote Sensing Centre Dr. Prakash Chauhan said that today space data is being used all the time in our lives. Satellites in space give us many types of updates along with GPS navigation. In Uttarakhand, we had made livestock data online. During the Rishiganga, Chamoli disaster, we did mapping through satellite and prepared data, which was later used in the national policy as well. This data was used in post disaster need assessment. Earth observation, satellite communication and satellite navigation have completely changed our lives. Satellite data is being used in the field of mapping during disasters in Uttarakhand, forest conservation and forest fire mapping. Work is also being done to monitor glacier lakes, forecast events like floods, cloudbursts.

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan said that special attention is being paid to adopting space technology in Uttarakhand and developing permanent scientific infrastructure for it. The Chief Secretary also urged ISRO to adopt some science centres in the state and make available Cartosat imagery of 50 cm or similar resolution to the state on real time and non-commercial basis.

Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Nitesh Jha, Director General UCOST Prof. Durgesh Pant and scientists were present on the occasion.
