Uttarakhand: HC strict on hoarding scam of Rs 300 crore in Nagar Nigam, asked for reply from government and corporation in three weeks

The Nainital High Court has now taken a tough stand on the complaints raised about the possible cartel system in the hoarding and unipole tender scam in the Municipal Corporation Dehradun for the last 10 years. Hearing the PIL of Uttarakhand Congress spokesperson Abhinav Thapar, the court has ordered the state government, Municipal Corporation Dehradun and District Magistrate to file a reply within three weeks.

HC seeks reply from government and Municipal Corporation in three weeks on hoarding scam

Abhinav Thapar has alleged in the petition that there has been a disturbance in the tenders of hoardings and unipoles in the Municipal Corporation Dehradun from 2013 to 2023. The tender process was manipulated by forming a cartel to benefit certain companies, causing a loss of up to Rs 300 crore to the corporation. The petitioner also alleges that the survey committee formed by the corporation in 2019 had given information about 325 illegal hoardings, but till date it has not been revealed who was selling these illegal hoardings and how and by whom the revenue was collected on them.

Next hearing will be on 21st July

Thapar said that we had complained about this corruption on 11th August 2023, but the investigation has not started till date. Earlier also the High Court had asked the government to take timely action, but the investigation was stopped without filing the report. The petition has demanded that there should be a fair investigation of this entire tender scam that took place during the BJP regime and the loss of crores to the corporation should be compensated. Thapar has called this order his victory. The court has fixed the date of next hearing as 21st July.
