The Uttarakhand government has geared up for the great festival of faith and devotion, Kanwar Yatra 2025. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, the Health Department has prepared a strict and dedicated action plan, under which a comprehensive monitoring campaign will be conducted to provide pure and safe food to lakhs of devotees.

It is mandatory to have the name of the owner written on the shops located on the Kanwar route

The government has implemented strict arrangements to provide pure and safe food to the devotees during Kanwar Yatra 2025. Health Secretary and Commissioner Food Safety and Drug Administration Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that in this regard, some important instructions have been given to all the hotels, dhabas, carts, phads and other food traders present on the travel routes, which are mandatory to follow, every food businessman will have to put a clean copy of his license or registration certificate at a prominent place in his establishment, so that consumers can easily see it.

It is necessary to show license and identity card

Small traders and street vendors will also be required to keep and display their photo identity card and registration certificate. ‘Food Safety Display Board’ should also be installed in hotels, eateries, dhabas and restaurants at a clearly visible place, so that the customer can know who is responsible for the quality of food. Action will be taken against businessmen who do not follow these instructions under Section 55 of the Food Safety Act 2006, in which a fine of up to ₹ 2 lakh can be imposed. All concerned officials should ensure that these orders are strictly followed. There will be no compromise with the health of the devotees.

No compromise on the quality of food items: Secretary

Health Secretary and Commissioner Food Safety and Drug Administration Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that there will be no compromise on the quality of food items being served at pandals, stores and other food centers during the Kanwar Yatra. Immediate legal action will be taken against adulterators and those who tamper with the standards. The health of the pilgrims is our top priority.

Intensive food testing campaign

Special teams of food safety officers have been deployed in Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Uttarkashi districts. These teams will regularly take samples of milk, sweets, oil, spices, beverages etc. from the pandals and send them to laboratories for testing. If any sample does not meet the standards, the concerned site will be closed immediately.

Awareness and complaint system

The public and operators will be made aware of the identification of pure food, food rules and consumer rights through IEC (Information, Education and Communication) mediums. For this, banners, posters, pamphlets and social media are being used. Any person can lodge a complaint regarding the quality of food items on the toll free number issued by the government – ​​18001804246. Administrative teams will immediately go to the spot and take action on the complaint.

Regular reporting and officers responsible

A report of the action taken daily from every district will be sent to the government. Senior officers have been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring. If negligence is found at any level, strict action will be taken against the concerned officials.

Pledge of health in the festival of faith

The Uttarakhand government has appealed to all religious institutions, bhandaara operators and food vendors to serve only pure, safe and quality food while respecting the faith of the devotees. The government intends to maintain a balance of both faith and health in this holy journey.
