On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, mock drills were conducted on Monday in five districts of the state most affected by floods and waterlogging. With the aim of better coping with various disasters occurring during the monsoon period, conducting relief and rescue operations in a smooth and effective manner, and strengthening coordination between various line departments, this mock drill was organized at 23 places in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Dehradun and Champawat districts. Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman said that mock drills were practiced seriously in all the districts with very good coordination.

Due to the promptness and full participation of the officers of various line departments at the district level, success was achieved in completing the real time mock exercise. He said that the objective of the mock drill was to strengthen coordination between various departments, to make the best use of various resources and equipment during disasters. Success has been achieved to a great extent in fulfilling this objective. He said that some shortcomings were observed, which will be removed so that floods and other disasters occurring during the monsoon period can be dealt with effectively. He said that the purpose of this drill was to identify such gaps, so that there is no hindrance in the conduct of relief and rescue operations at the time of actual disaster.
