Heavy rains have been continuing in Uttarakhand for the past several days. Due to rain, life in the hilly districts has been disrupted. Pauri Garhwal is also receiving torrential rains. Due to rain and landslides, movement on 36 motor roads of the district has come to a complete halt.

Apart from this, the water level of the Alaknanda river flowing in the Srinagar area of Pauri district has reached 533 meters, which is close to the danger mark. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the district administration has imposed a complete ban on going near the river and drains. District Magistrate Swati S Bhadoria has instructed all the officers of the district to remain on alert mode. Also, the concerned departments have been directed to open the closed motor roads as soon as possible.

National Highway-534 connecting Kotdwar to Najibabad is badly affected by heavy rains. Due to the recent collapse of the culvert located near Jaffrabad, the road connectivity of Kotdwar with other areas has been completely cut off. The situation has become so dire that people are compelled to cross the overflowing Sukhrao river via Badiya.

Many drivers are crossing the river by tying their vehicles behind the tractor, risking their lives, due to which movement has become extremely dangerous. Local people allege that no concrete alternative arrangement has been made by the administration so far, due to which they are facing huge difficulties.

The condition of the Kotdwar-Dugdda road also remains very worrying during the rainy season. Landslides are continuously occurring in many parts of the route and there is a possibility of the road collapsing. Many people have also been injured due to stones falling from the hills. However, local police and SDRF teams are deployed on the spot and are constantly monitoring the situation.
