West Bengal: Action taken in gang rape case of law college student, all three accused expelled from the institute; Notice also issued to security agency

In the case of gang rape of a student at Calcutta Law College, Kolkata, the college authorities have expelled three accused from the institute.

An official gave this information on Tuesday. Those expelled from the institute also include the main accused Manojit Mishra, who was a contract employee at the college.

All three accused expelled from college

Along with Manojit Mishra, co-accused Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee have also been expelled. Both are students of the college. All three were arrested. The announcement of terminating Mishra’s services and expelling two students was made after a meeting of the college’s governing body chaired by Trinamool Congress MLA Ashok Kumar Deb.

Notice also sent to security agencies

Deb told reporters that a show cause notice will also be sent to the security agency appointed to protect the institute campus. This action of the college administration has been taken amid growing public anger over the alleged incident.

According to the college’s vice-principal, Mishra was appointed on contract about 45 days ago. According to college records, Mishra was earlier a student of the institute and took admission in 2013. That year, he was expelled from the institute after being accused of stabbing a youth on Chetla Bridge under Kalighat police station.

Action will be taken against those who reveal the identity of the victim

This is a serious violation of the law. Strict legal action will be taken under the relevant provisions against anyone found involved in such acts. The public is advised not to share any information that may reveal the identity of the victim.

All three accused had committed the crime

It is a legal obligation and moral imperative to respect the dignity and privacy of the victim. Let us tell you that Manoj Mishra, a former student of Law College, who is said to be a Trinamool Congress worker, along with two senior students Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, committed this crime in the room of the security personnel of the institute on the night of June 25.
