Amidst the turmoil in the Karnataka Congress, the Siddaramaiah government of the state has decided to change the names of two cities on Wednesday (July 2, 2025). Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that from now on Bengaluru Rural district has been renamed as Bengaluru North and Bagepalli has been renamed as Bhagyanagar.
There is internal strife in Karnataka Congress
The Karnataka government had changed the name of Ramnagar district to Bengaluru South in May 2025. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar had proposed to change the name of this district. For the past few days, reports of internal strife within the Karnataka Congress have been coming out continuously. However, CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar made it clear that there is no factionalism in the party and we are united.
DK Shivakumar warned
DK Shivakumar warned that notices would be issued to leaders making public statements on the issue of leadership change. He issued a show cause notice on Tuesday to Ramnagar MLA HA Iqbal Hussain, who was demanding that DK Shivakumar be made the CM.
I will remain Karnataka CM for five years: Siddaramaiah
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said he will continue in office for the full five-year term. He said the Congress is united and the party’s government will remain rock solid for five years. DK Shivakumar on Wednesday said there is no discontent within the ruling Congress and there is no need for a controversy over the leadership issue when Siddaramaiah is the state’s chief minister.
“I have not asked anyone to take my name or make me the chief minister. There is no need for that. There is no need for any controversy when the chief minister is (Siddaramaiah). Everyone has worked hard. Hundreds of people like me have worked hard. Am I alone? Lakhs of party workers have worked hard. We have to think about them first,” he said.
