Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced that his government will strengthen the method of water storage. This decision has come at a time when India had taken the step of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.

A large scale agriculture of Pakistan is dependent on the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab rivers. If the water level of these rivers decreases, Pakistan will become destitute and will crave for every drop of water.

Pak PM Shahbaz Sharif spoke on this issue during his visit to the National Emergency Operations Center on Tuesday. According to the state news agency Associated Press of Pakistan, he said that the enemy wants to take action against the water treaty.

‘We will make efforts to store water’

Shahbaz Sharif said, “Our government has decided that we will create our own water reserves.” He stressed that the Pakistani government will work on the way to use water and storage will be an important link in this, which will include projects like Diamer Bhasha Dam.

He said, “We will use our strength to build the capacity to store water in the next few years. The National Disaster Management Authority will play an important role in this.”

After the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan is now worried about water

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, India took strict measures against Pakistan. The Indian government suspended the Indus Water Treaty. This treaty is an important means of sharing water between the two countries. Pakistan believes that any obstruction in the flow of water is a big threat to its agriculture.
