The state government has issued strict guidelines to provide pure and safe food to the devotees coming for Kanwar Yatra. Now, food shops on the Yatra routes will have to compulsorily display the name, license and identity card of the shopkeeper. A fine of up to two lakhs will be imposed for not following the government’s instructions.

Health Secretary and Commissioner FDA Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar issued strict instructions to food traders along with running a campaign to stop adulteration of food items in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri and Uttarkashi districts for Kanwar Yatra.

Action will be taken under the Security Act and a fine of up to two lakhs will be imposed

Every food trader on the Yatra routes will have to display his license or registration certificate in the shop. Small traders and street vendors will also be required to display photo identity card and registration certificate. Action will be taken under the Food Safety Act and a fine of up to two lakhs will be imposed for not following the instructions.

Health Secretary and Commissioner FDA said that there will be no compromise on the quality of food items being served in the shops along with pandals, bhandaras during the Kanwar Yatra. Additional Commissioner Food Safety and Drug Administration Tajbar Singh Jaggi said, legal action will be taken against those doing food business without license.

Awareness and complaint system

The public and operators will be made aware of the identification of pure food, food rules and consumer rights through IEC (Information, Education and Communication) mediums. For this, banners, posters, pamphlets and social media are being used. Any person can register a complaint regarding the quality of food items on the toll free number issued by the government- 18001804246. Administrative teams will immediately go to the spot and take action on the complaint.
