Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has ordered the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to stop its cooperation in its work in the country. Earlier, Iran’s parliament had approved a resolution related to this. Iran has taken this decision after the IAEA failed to stop the American and Israeli attacks on its nuclear installations.

The board of the international agency had also called Iran’s uranium purification level suspicious, after which Israel attacked Iran on June 13. Pezeshkian’s order does not state how long the ban on IAEA’s work in Iran will remain in force. After this order, IAEA inspectors will no longer be allowed to enter Iran and inspect nuclear plants.

Hope for talks with America
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that his country wishes to hold talks with America on the nuclear issue, but these talks cannot happen soon. Meanwhile, Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has requested European countries – Britain, France and Germany – to implement the UN sanctions imposed before 2015.

These three countries were also among the major countries of the world that signed a nuclear agreement with Iran in 2015. It was only after this agreement that the UN sanctions imposed on Iran were lifted. According to the 2015 agreement, Iran had to refine uranium only up to 3.67 percent, which is sufficient to generate electricity. Whereas up to 90 percent pure uranium is required to make nuclear weapons.

It is believed that Iran has come close to preparing pure uranium enough to make nuclear weapons apart from the agreement. Iran’s latest move is now raising questions about its accountability regarding the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. As a member of this treaty, Iran cannot develop nuclear weapons and it is also mandatory for its nuclear installations to remain in cooperation with the IAEA.
