Before the Kanwar Yatra, politics has once again heated up on the name plate issue. Recently, the Dhami government has issued instructions that it is mandatory for all shopkeepers on the Kanwar route to put name plates on their shops. Politics has now heated up on this decision of the government.

Mangalore MLA targeted the government on the name plate issue

Mangalore MLA Qazi Nizamuddin has raised objections and raised questions on the intention of the government. He alleged that the Dhami government is trying to divert the attention of the public by making new rules to hide its failures. Qazi Nizamuddin said that the success of the Kanwar Yatra is everyone’s responsibility, but the government should first strengthen its arrangements and not entangle small shopkeepers in the web of unnecessary rules. Qazi Nizamuddin called it a one-sided strictness towards the traders.

MLA mentioned Muzaffarnagar Kanwar route controversy

The MLA also mentioned a recent incident in Muzaffarnagar, where some people tried to find out the religious identity of an employee working in a restaurant by removing his pants. Describing the incident as inhuman and shameful, he said, such people are a threat to the society. They should not be spared under any circumstances. The MLA demanded from the government that before making rules, it should ensure that they are not misused and law and order is equally applicable to all.

SC had stayed the government order in 2024

It is worth noting that every year lakhs of Shiva devotees reach Uttarakhand during the Kanwar Yatra. In the year 2024 also, the Dhami government had issued instructions for all the shops located on the Kanwar route that shopkeepers must compulsorily put name plates outside their shops. However, there was protest against this order of the government, after which the Supreme Court had stayed this instruction.
