Shefali Jariwala is no more in this world. Shefali, famous as Kaanta Laga Girl, died of cardiac arrest on 27 June at the age of 42. After the death of the actress, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, who made the remix of Kaanta Laga, announced that they would not make a sequel to this song.
In fact, last year Shefali Jariwala revealed in a podcast that she wanted to be known as Kaanta Laga Girl till her last breath. To fulfill this last wish of the actress, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru announced that they would never make a sequel to the Kaanta Laga song.
Sona got angry at the makers of Kaanta Laga
After this announcement, well-known singer Sona Mahapatra shared a post and took a dig at the directors without naming them. She wrote in her Instagram story, “3 legends made Kanta Laga. Musicians, lyricists and singers- RD Burman, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Lata Mangeshkar. This is a completely false ‘retirement’ by people calling themselves ‘producers’ to get some PR from a death (Viral B is primarily a paywalled site),” Sona Mohapatra further wrote.
Sona Mohapatra further said, “These two have just made a pornographic video by remixing with a 19-year-old girl. (Of course, their xx interpretation does not require permission from the legends). RIP and this legacy for a 42-year-old woman? And this India?”
Sona Mohapatra clarified
After this statement of Sona Mohapatra, there was an uproar on social media. People are calling her statement insensitive. She is being badly trolled for this, to which the singer has reacted. She said, “To all those who call me insensitive, I want to say that do we agree that our music legends like RD Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, Majrooh Sultanpuri are slowly disappearing and getting disconnected from their creations?”
Sona said, “Do we agree with paid PR to take advantage of someone’s death? Is it okay to call yourself the ‘producer’ of Kaanta Laga when you are just the producer of a remix video?”
