While heavy rains in Delhi after many days brought relief to people from the humid heat, waterlogging and traffic jams in many parts of the city have increased the trouble of the people. On Wednesday (July 9), it rained for a long time, due to which areas like Nehru Place, Aurobindo Marg, Lajpat Nagar, Akshardham, Ashram, ITO and Shadipur were flooded, due to which movement was disrupted.
Najafgarh recorded 60 mm of rain, Aya Nagar 50.5 mm and Pragati Maidan 37 mm. At the same time, only 1.4 mm of rain was recorded at Safdarjung Observatory. Due to the rain, the Public Works Department (PWD) control room received 29 complaints, including Jhilmil Underpass, Loni Gol Chakkar and Yamuna Vihar.
IMD issued ‘Red Alert’ by increasing the Orange Alert
The Meteorological Department had issued an Orange Alert in the afternoon, which was later increased to ‘Red Alert’. According to PTI, the department has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms and people have been advised to stay away from open spaces, under trees and water bodies.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was recorded at 35.6 degrees and the minimum temperature at 26.4 degrees Celsius, which is slightly below normal.
Government of four engines, all four turned out to be junk – AAP
On the other hand, political reaction was also strong due to waterlogging in Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj took a dig at the BJP while sharing the video, “Government of four engines, all four turned out to be junk.” He said that the condition of waterlogging on the roads from Patparganj to Lutyens Delhi is terrible.
Former Delhi CM Atishi also targeted the BJP government and CM Rekha Gupta and said, “The MLA of Shalimar Bagh has turned her area into a swimming pool.” Politics in Delhi on this issue has become as intense as the rain streams.
