Director General of Police Deepam Seth held a high-level review meeting on various issues including strengthening policing in Uttarakhand and improving the investigation of crimes. During this, the Director General of Police also issued instructions related to accountability from police stations to captains.

The Director General of Police, while holding a high-level review meeting, gave clear messages to all the districts on Wednesday regarding control over crime. During this, the focus of the meeting was on the investigation of crimes, in which police officers were instructed to increase the quality of investigation and conduct timely investigation. In this, DGP Deepam Seth said that there should be transparency during the investigation of crimes. Also, the investigation report, charge sheet and final report should be personally supervised by senior police officers.

An important issue during the meeting was also about the investigation process of cases related to the High Court. In which instructions were given that the officers will have to focus on investigation plan, scientific evidence, videography and electronic evidence for correct investigation and impartiality.

Effective supervision of police station investigations, identification of deficiencies and timely improvement should be ensured at the concerned Circle Officer, Additional Superintendent of Police and district level. It was also made clear that accountability of the investigating officer, station head and officers of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) level including the jurisdictional officer (CO) should be ensured for non-compliance of court’s instructions and disregard of the instructions of the police headquarters.

Emphasis has also been laid on regular training to increase transparency and scientific approach in the investigation of serious crimes in the state. Its purpose is to make the policemen work professionally during investigation. So that it helps in solving the cases as soon as possible.

By preparing training modules, 3000 investigators should be prepared in a phased manner for new criminal law, scientific evidence, prosecution coordination NDPS, women and child crimes and scientific investigation.
