Trump first announced tariffs on Algeria, Iraq, Libya, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Moldova and the Philippines. All these tariffs will come into effect from August 1. After Trump imposed heavy tariffs, the Brazilian President has also given his reaction.
Brazil’s reaction
Just hours after Trump announced the imposition of 50 percent tariffs, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has strongly reacted to this decision and warned the US of economic retaliation.

A sharp statement came from Silva’s office
President Silva’s office reacted sharply to the tariff decision and issued a statement saying, “If any country unilaterally increases tariffs, Brazil will respond under the Economic Reciprocity Law.”

Silva called Trump’s allegations false
While justifying his decision to impose tariffs on Brazil, US President Donald Trump had alleged that Brazil had attacked US elections and freedom of expression. In response, Brazilian President Silva called Trump’s allegations false and said that they were a distortion of facts.
