Mumbai Police has registered a case against Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad of Eknath Shinde faction in Maharashtra. A non-cognizable offence has been registered against Gaikwad at Marine Drive Police Station under section 352,115(2) of BNS.
Gaikwad had beaten up a canteen employee who served stale food, to which the opposition protested strongly. After this, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday (July 11) that the police must investigate.
Now the police has taken action against Gaikwad. Fadnavis said, “There is no need for anyone to file a complaint for this. If it is a cognizable offence, then the police can take suo motu cognizance and take action. Whether this offence is cognizable or non-cognizable depends on how hard the person was hit. The nature of the crime is decided on this basis.”
What did the Shiv Sena MLA say?
After the CM’s statement, Buldhana MLA Gaikwad supported his action and said that even if my path was wrong, I have no regrets. Rather, because of what I did, action was taken against the canteen serving substandard food. I had just hit a little. Therefore, only NC (Non-Cognizable Report) can be registered.
He said, ”This is not a big crime. I know the law. I will meet the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister and inform them about this incident. If they think that I am guilty, then I am ready to face the punishment given by them.”
Gaikwad had slapped a canteen employee of the ‘Akashvani MLA’ hostel on Tuesday (July 8) night for serving stale food. The video of this fight has gone viral. After this, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the license of the caterer running the Mumbai-based canteen on Wednesday evening. The FDA said in its suspension order that violation of food safety rules was found during the inspection of the canteen.
