Himachal Pradesh: Highway closed for 24 hours due to landslide in Mandi, Gurudwara sevadars came forward to help the stranded hungry and thirsty people

The Chandigarh-Manali national highway is closed since 1:30 pm on Saturday due to landslides and continuous debris near Mandi-Pandoh Marg Char Mile. Due to this, hundreds of vehicles are stranded on both sides and people are facing great inconvenience. There are also small children in buses and other vehicles, who were troubled by hunger and thirst. In the afternoon, the volunteers of Gurudwara Singh Sabha have provided them great relief by arranging food on the road itself.

Outpost in-charge Anil Katoch said that the work of opening the road has been started from 8 am on Sunday and the road is expected to be restored by noon. On Saturday, the process of continuous falling of stones from the hill continued, due to which the road could not be opened due to security reasons. It has been 24 hours, but the road has not been restored.

Heavy vehicles are not able to go through the alternative route
The administration has started sending small vehicles through alternative routes, but the road is still closed for big vehicles like buses, trucks and jeeps. Due to this, the drivers carrying vegetables and fruits are facing the most problems. People are stranded for 24 hours.

Drivers Gurmeet Singh, Kala and Jahangir, who were going to Delhi with vegetables from Tandi and Kelang, told that they were stranded in Aut for about 10 hours on the night of July 11 and now they are stuck in the four miles of Pandoh for the last 24 hours.

Gurudwara sevadars provided food to the stranded people

Members of Gurdwara Singh Sabha Nerchowk, Rewalsar Sahib, Gurukotha Sahib Managing Committee Nerchowk reached the spot to feed the stranded tourists and other people. They fed the stranded people. The sevadars of Gurdwara Sabha reached with food in vehicles. During this, Sabha’s head Sardar Singh, senior vice-president Jaswant Singh, advisor Nirmal Singh, general secretary Manpreet Singh, treasurer Surendra Singh were present.

Vegetables getting spoiled in vehicles

They say that the vegetables loaded in the vehicles are getting spoiled and if they do not reach the market on time, they neither get the full fare, nor do the traders give them relief. In such a situation, they are facing the crisis of financial loss. The drivers have demanded from the administration that the route be restored as soon as possible and they be evacuated safely.
