b
Politics has heated up in Uttarakhand regarding the Panchayat elections. After the High Court’s decision to ban the candidates whose names are registered in the voter list of both the Municipal Corporation and the Gram Panchayat from contesting the elections, now the Congress has demanded immediate postponement of these elections.
Allegations of irregularities in the voter list
The Congress alleges that the entire process of Panchayat elections in the state is based on huge irregularities in the voter list. State Congress media in-charge Rajiv Maharishi said that the High Court’s order is proof that what the Congress was saying from the beginning was correct. Maharishi said that we were constantly saying that there are widespread irregularities in the voter list and now the court has also pointed towards this.
Congress made serious allegations
Rajiv Maharishi also alleged that the Election Commission is not working impartially and the nominations of many Congress-supported candidates have been deliberately canceled. Maharishi said that the Election Commission itself is tampering with the elections and is working at the behest of the BJP. The High Court’s order has made it clear that there were flaws in the election process.
Congress demanded the government to postpone the elections
Congress has demanded that the government should immediately postpone the panchayat elections. Maharshi said that the High Court’s decision is welcome, but this decision came when all the preparations for the elections were complete. Now it has become clear that the election process was flawed. He said that the government should stop the elections for the time being and after reviewing the entire process, a fresh transparent election should be conducted.
