The case coming from Balasore in Odisha will send chills down your spine. Here, a B.Ed. second-year student poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire in the college campus. She took this painful step after not getting help despite complaining against sexual harassment. This incident happened around 1 pm on Saturday afternoon. After which the student was admitted to the hospital. After suffering 95% burns, the 20-year-old student died on Monday, July 14 at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Student sets herself on fire in college in Odisha

Actually, this incident is from Fakir Mohan College Campus. Where a 20-year-old girl set herself on fire. This entire incident was recorded in the CCTV installed in the campus. Sameer Kumar Sahu, HOD of the B.Ed. department of this college, is accused of physically and mentally abusing the victim as well as other students. A complaint was lodged against Sahu by the college administration. But when no action was taken, the student set herself on fire.

Teacher used to sexually abuse

Some B.Ed. second year students complained to the principal against Sameer Kumar Sahu, HOD of Integrated B.Ed. Department in the college. In which it was said that HOD mentally abuses them. At the same time, a student even said that HOD had also asked to get physical. There were many complaints against this teacher earlier as well. But no action was taken.

No action was taken on the student’s complaint

A B.Ed. student studying in the same college also made serious allegations of sexual abuse against the HOD. For this, the student gave a written complaint to the college administration. But action is far away. The accused was not even suspended. On the contrary, the girl was advised to keep quiet.

The girl fought between life and death for eight days

When no action was taken, on July 6, the student poured kerosene on herself in the college itself and set herself on fire. People present there tried to extinguish the fire. But by then 95% of the body had been burnt. First she was referred to Balasore Hospital and then to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. After fighting between life and death for eight days, she died on July 14.

Wrote a letter before dying

Let us tell you that before dying, the student had written a letter, “I have lost peace… when I complained, no one listened… now I am ending my life…”

What did the principal say

Let us tell you that the student also went to the principal with a complaint against the HOD. The student set herself on fire only after meeting the principal. On this, the principal also presented his explanation. In which he said, “The student came to meet me, I explained to her for 20 minutes, but she started saying that she cannot wait any longer and left from here. After about 15-20 minutes it was found out that she had set herself on fire.”

HOD arrested, principal suspended

The matter gained momentum after the girl committed self-immolation. After which the police arrested HOD Sameer Kumar. Along with this, the Odisha government also suspended Principal Ghosh due to the negligence of the college administration in this case.

This matter became bigger after the death of the student. Protests started all over Odisha. Along with this, political parties also started giving their statements in this matter. People accused the accused teacher and the college administration of “organized murder”.
