Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday claimed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma considers himself a king, but the people of the state will send him to jail for corruption. Addressing a Congress meeting in Chaygaon, Assam, Rahul Gandhi said that Sarma and his family will be held accountable for corruption. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said, “Your Chief Minister is in fear, he knows that fearless Congress workers will put him in jail.”

Accused BJP of rigging

Rahul Gandhi also attacked the BJP during this time. He alleged that the Election Commission and the BJP are working together. He claimed that the BJP won the Maharashtra Assembly elections by rigging through voter list amendment. Rahul Gandhi said, “They are adopting the same tactics in Bihar and will do the same in Assam. We have to be careful.” Rahul said, “The media is no longer our friend, they are not showing the truth, they are only showing Adani, Ambani, Chief Minister, Modi and Shah.” During this, he also claimed that this will not help him because the Congress will win a landslide victory in the assembly elections to be held in Assam next year.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has hit back at Rahul Gandhi’s statement. He claimed that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had said during the meeting of the state Congress’ Political Affairs Committee here that the Chief Minister “will definitely be sent to jail”. Sarma also said that the Congress leader forgot that he himself is on bail in several criminal cases registered across the country. CM Sarma posted on X “Take it in writing, Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely be sent to jail” – these are the exact words said by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a closed-door meeting of the Congress’ Political Affairs Committee in Assam.
