Uttarakhand: CM Dhami planted a Rudraksh plant on Harela festival, said the target is to plant 5 lakh saplings

On the occasion of Harela festival, the folk festival of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the state-wide tree plantation program organized on the theme “Celebrate Harela festival, repay the debt of Mother Earth” at Gorkha Military Inter College Campus, Dehradun. The CM wished the people of the state on Harela festival. He also planted a Rudraksh plant.

Target of planting 5 lakh saplings

CM Dhami said that Harela is not just a festival, but a deep feeling associated with the culture, nature and consciousness of Uttarakhand, which reminds us of our responsibilities towards the environment. He informed that a target of planting about 5 lakh saplings has been set on the day of Harela festival. The CM said that a target has been set to plant 50 percent fruit trees in every division of the Forest Department. He said that in this Mahabhiyan, the government is taking the cooperation of public participation, voluntary organizations, students, women’s groups and panchayats.

Regular care of plants is necessary: CM

CM Dhami said that we have to ensure that the planted saplings are taken care of regularly till they take the form of trees. He said that Uttarakhand is a state rich in natural beauty and biodiversity, which it is the moral duty of all of us to protect. CM Dhami informed that this year a target has been set to plant 108 crore saplings across the country. Apart from this, ‘Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARRA)’ has been formed for environmental protection in the state.

Called upon the people of the state to plant saplings

The Chief Minister said that so far more than 6,500 water sources have been conserved and 3.12 million cubic meters of rainwater has been harvested through SARRA. He said that a complete ban has been imposed on single use plastic in the state and dustbins have been made mandatory in vehicles. The CM appealed to the people of the state to plant a tree on special occasions in their lives and care for it so that environmental protection can be made a mass movement.
