Landslide again in Himachal Pradesh, debris fell on NH707; About 200 roads closed in the state

While monsoon brings happiness on one hand, it brings relief from heat, it also brings many difficulties. Especially in hilly states like Himachal Pradesh, life gets disrupted due to cloudburst and landslides. Like the last few years, this year too, Himachal Pradesh has suffered a lot due to rain and floods. Yesterday i.e. on Wednesday, July 16, the National Highway was closed due to landslide in Sirmaur district. Currently, about 200 roads are closed in the state.

On Wednesday, a major landslide occurred near Shillai in Sirmaur district. Due to this landslide, National Highway No. 707 was closed. This highway connects Hatkoti to Ponta. Due to the fall of a large part of the mountain, the movement of vehicles on this route came to a complete halt.

The work of opening the road was started immediately here, but due to continuous debris coming from the mountain, major difficulties were faced in opening the road. Due to this, there was a huge traffic jam on both sides of the road. Apart from this, trees fell on the road around Shimla and the roads got blocked and there was a traffic jam.

How many roads are closed where

According to the report till Wednesday evening, about 200 roads are closed in the state, including NH-707. Mandi district is the most affected by monsoon this year. 140 roads are closed in Mandi district. After this comes Sirmaur district, where 27 roads are broken and 21 roads in Kullu are broken, affecting the movement.

Water supply also disrupted

Not only this, 137 water projects in the state have also been affected due to landslides. Water is not reaching people’s homes through taps. According to the state’s Emergency Operation Center, 47 power distribution transformers have also been affected in this monsoon.

Orange alert for rain issued

The local Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in many areas of the state on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 July. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains. Apart from this, a yellow alert for heavy rains has been issued in some districts of the state on July 20.

Apart from this, light to moderate rains will continue in other parts of the state. Monsoon entered the state on June 20. The state’s Emergency Operation Center has so far reported 109 deaths due to rain, floods and landslide-related incidents. Of these, 64 people have died due to rain-related incidents, 45 have died due to road accidents. Apart from this, 199 people have been injured and 35 people are still missing.

This year, the state has suffered a loss of more than Rs 883 crore due to monsoon. During this period, according to official information, a total of 31 flash floods, 22 incidents of cloudburst and 18 incidents of landslides have also occurred.
