Preparations to open Nanda Devi mountain for trek after four decades
According to the information, work is being done to finalize this proposal with the joint cooperation of the Tourism Department, Indian Mountaineering Foundation and Forest Department. If this plan comes into effect, then after about four decades, mountaineers can get an opportunity to climb Nanda Devi peak.
Ban on going to Nanda Devi peak was imposed in 1983
It is worth noting that mountaineering on Nanda Devi peak has been completely banned since the year 1983. This ban was imposed keeping in mind the environmental safety, biodiversity and religious sensitivity of the area. But now there is a plan to open this peak in a limited and controlled manner with the aim of promoting adventure tourism in the state and attracting international mountaineers.
Youth will get employment opportunities
Tourism department officials believe that this step will give new life to mountaineering activities in the state, which will not only provide employment opportunities to local youth, but will also help in making Uttarakhand a global hub of adventure tourism. However, the final decision will be taken only with the consent of the Center and the Ministry of Environment.
