Uttarakhand: Dhami government’s action on corruption, bribe-taking chief engineer suspended

The Dhami government has taken a big action against corruption. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the bribe-taking Chief Engineer of the Drinking Water Corporation has been suspended. The accused had demanded a bribe of lakhs of rupees from the victim in the name of a job.
Bribe of lakhs demanded in the name of a job
Sanjay Kumar, resident of Kashipur, had given a complaint regarding the matter. In which he had alleged that in the year 2022, the then Superintending Engineer of Nirman Mandal Dehradun, Sujit Kumar had assured his firm of getting work in the department and getting it registered.
The game was going on in the name of the wife
In return, the Chief Engineer allegedly transferred a total of Rs 10 lakh in five installments to the account of a firm named ‘Kuchchu-Puchchu Enterprises’ at the behest of Sujit Kumar. Investigation revealed that the partner of that firm is Sujit Kumar’s wife herself. Documents related to bank accounts and stamp papers were also attached with the complaint.
Chief Engineer suspended
After the matter came to light, the department gave Sujit Kumar 15 days to give clarification. To which he did not give any answer. Taking it seriously, on the instructions of CM Dhami, the Personnel and Vigilance Department started investigating the matter. The Chief Engineer has been suspended after the allegations were found to be true.
