On July 21, FIDE, the global chess body, informed that India is going to host the World Cup 2025. 206 players will participate in it. Along with this tournament, the players will also compete among themselves to qualify for the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament.

Last time it was organized in 2002

Let us tell you that the last time India hosted the Chess World Cup was in the year 2002. In this, India’s legendary Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand won this title. In such a situation, now after 23 years, this tournament is being organized again in India. This tournament will be organized in knockout format.

In this, players will be eliminated in every round. That is, the losing player will be directly out of the tournament. According to FIDE, the top three players will directly participate in the 2026 Candidates Tournament. This is part of the selection process for the future world champion.
