A five-member delegation of the party led by Uttarakhand Mahila Morcha state president Jyoti Rautela met Governor Gurmeet Singh. During this, a memorandum was also given to the Governor on behalf of Jyoti Rautela. Through the memorandum, various cases related to increasing crimes against women in the state were raised before the Governor.
While meeting the Governor, the Mahila Congress also raised the demand to stop the violent incidents against minor girls and women in the state. In the memorandum handed over to the Governor by Mahila Congress state president Jyoti Rautela, it has been said that in the last three years, 1822 incidents of rape of women have occurred. Apart from this, bodies of 318 unidentified women have been found, out of which only 87 have been identified. In Uttarakhand alone, 10500 women went missing in the last 5 years, out of which 767 women are still missing.
Jyoti Rautela says that the incidents of crime against women are increasing year after year in the state and in three years, 103947 cases of crime against women have been registered in various police stations across the state. During these three years, there has been a huge increase in the incidents of murder, rape of innocents and heinous crimes related to women in the state. These incidents happening continuously in the state are hurting the dignity of women as well as the identity of the state, the pride of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is also being tarnished by these incidents.
Jyoti Rautela says that on an average, one rape and murder incident is happening every month in the state of Uttarakhand, due to which an atmosphere of fear prevails in the state and the common people, especially women, are feeling insecure. She said that the name of a former BJP leader had come up in the case of gang rape of a 13-year-old minor daughter in Haridwar. The accused woman is in jail, but the audio of talking to the woman on the phone from the jail has gone viral. From this incident, it seems that all the comforts are being provided to the woman in jail. This is raising serious questions on the judicial system of the state and the working style of the police administration.
The Mahila Congress raised various incidents of crime against women and minor girls in the last 3 years before the Governor, and urged that a special commission or high level investigation committee be formed to curb crimes against women and children in the state of Uttarakhand.
Apart from this, the Uttarakhand Women Commission and Child Commission should be dissolved immediately. These commissions should be reorganized by determining their independence, activism and accountability. All the concerned departmental officials including the Minister of Women and Child Development should be asked to answer for keeping silence in the matter of crimes related to women. During this, the Mahila Congress has also raised the matter of recommending CBI and SIT investigation in serious cases of crimes against women before the Governor.
