The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for more than three years, is still not stopping. Despite heavy losses, Russia is intensifying attacks on Ukraine. In such a situation, the US has taken a big decision. Under this, the US has approved the sale of weapons worth $ 322 million (about Rs 2,700 crore) to Ukraine. This includes air defense systems and armored military vehicles.
This decision has come at a time when Russia’s attacks on Ukraine are intensifying. On the other hand, amid the intensifying attack, peace talks were held once again in Istanbul on Wednesday. During this, Ukraine made a big proposal to Russia. Under this, an offer has been made to hold direct talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin soon.
US State Department gave information
The State Department said that out of this, $ 150 million is for the repair and maintenance of armored vehicles, while $ 172 million has been kept for air defense missile systems. This proposal has been informed to the Congress. Let us tell you that a few weeks ago, US Defense Minister Pete Hezseth had banned sending weapons to Ukraine so that America’s own weapons stockpile could be assessed. The White House was also surprised by this decision. After this, President Donald Trump changed his stance and announced that America would send more weapons to Ukraine.
What did Trump say in the matter?
On the other hand, talking about US President Donald Trump in the matter, Trump said that we have to do this. Ukraine is facing attacks very badly, they have to protect themselves. He said that we will give them more weapons, especially defensive weapons. Trump recently suggested to European countries that they should buy weapons from America and give it to Ukraine. However, it is not clear whether this new deal is part of the same plan or not.
America is continuously helping Ukraine
It is worth noting that since Russia started the war on Ukraine in 2022, America has so far given military aid of more than $ 67 billion. The issue has repeatedly become complicated since Trump’s return to power as parts of his government and some members of Parliament oppose US aid in foreign wars. The US has so far appealed to its allies several times to provide air defense systems to Ukraine, but Eastern European countries, which are themselves under Russian threat, are hesitant to provide such high-tech systems.
Ukraine proposes direct talks with Putin, Russia softens expectations
Amid the war going on between Ukraine and Russia for more than three years, peace talks were held once again in Istanbul on Wednesday. During this, Ukraine made a big proposal to Russia. An offer has been made to hold direct talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin soon. Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov said that the meeting of the two presidents could take place by the end of August and it is proposed to include US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as well.
However, dashing hopes from Russia’s side, chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky said that the talks between the two sides went on for a long time but their views are still quite different. He said that the talks will continue.
Agreement on exchange of prisoners of war in talks
Russia and Ukraine will exchange 1,200 prisoners of war each. Russia is ready to return the bodies of 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers. Russia offered a temporary ceasefire of 24 to 48 hours so that the injured can be evacuated and the bodies of the dead soldiers can be picked up. On the other hand, Turkey also appealed for a permanent ceasefire and peace agreement, but Russia has deferred the hopes of any major change for the time being.
