Voting for the first phase of Uttarakhand three-tier Panchayat elections is going on today. Under the first phase, voting is going on in 26 development blocks of 6 districts of Garhwal division and 23 development blocks of 6 districts of Kumaon division today. A total of 5,823 polling booths have been set up under the first phase of voting. Where voters will vote. 17,839 candidates are in the fray in the first phase. Under the first phase, 2,247 candidates are in the fray for the post of Gram Panchayat member, 9,731 candidates for the post of Pradhan Gram Panchayat, 4,980 for the post of Kshetra Panchayat member and 871 candidates for the post of District Panchayat member.
About 26 lakh voters are exercising their franchise in the first phase of voting. Let us tell you that in view of the possibility of heavy rain in the state, the State Election Commission has decided that if voting is not held at any polling booth on the day of voting under the first phase on July 24 due to any reason, then voting will be held at that polling booth on July 28. While the voting for the second phase will also be held on July 28. And the results of the voting in both the phases will come together on July 31.
