According to Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Antiquities, this scroll gives a glimpse of the religious and spiritual beliefs of that era. It is believed that the ‘Book of the Dead’ was prepared to guide the dead soul in its journey to the afterlife. This scroll is the first complete papyrus found in Al-Guraifa so far and its condition is said to be very good.

The special thing is that this scroll is from the period of 1550 BC to 1070 BC, i.e. the new imperial period of Egypt. Also, canopic jars that preserved the organs of the dead, religious statues and sacred amulets have also been found in this discovery. International experts have also praised this discovery. Lara Weiss, CEO of Germany’s Romer and Pelizaeus Museum, called it a ‘spectacular and rare’ discovery, while Foy Scolff, an Egyptologist at the University of Chicago, considered it ‘a big leap towards Egyptology’.
