French President Emmanuel Macron has announced recognition of Palestine in the United Nations General Assembly meeting to be held in September. 140 countries including India have already recognized Palestine as an independent nation. India had recognized in 1988.
President Macron has expressed hope that recognizing Palestine as an independent nation will create the possibility of peace in West Asia. Macron has made this announcement on X. On the media platform, he also shared the letter to this effect which has been sent to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Macron will talk to the leaders of Britain and Germany
By making this announcement, Macron has put pressure on other European countries including Britain to recognize Palestine. Macron has said that he will soon talk to the leaders of Britain and Germany in this regard. While Britain has said that in future it can also support the demand for an independent Palestinian nation and recognize it, but right now there is a need for a ceasefire in Gaza. Efforts should be made together for that.
It is known that 25 countries including France, Britain, Germany had demanded this week to lift the ban on the supply of relief material to Gaza and to implement a permanent ceasefire there, which was rejected by Israel.
