Xi Yongxin, the head of China’s prestigious Shaolin Temple, has come under serious allegations. He has been accused of having sexual relations with several women and corruption. This information has been given by issuing a statement from the temple. The temple administration said on Sunday that a criminal investigation is underway against Shaolin’s abbot Xi Yongxin for embezzlement, sexual misconduct and breaking Buddhist rules.

According to the South China Morning Post report, the temple administration located in China’s Henan province said that Xi Yongxin is suspected of misusing project funds and temple property and having inappropriate relationships with several women over a long period of time and producing extramarital children. Shaolin Temple is one of the most famous Buddhist monasteries not only in China but in the world. It is considered the birthplace of Buddhism and Shaolin Kung Fu (martial arts).

Accusations made earlier too

This is not the first time that 59-year-old Xi Yongxin has come into controversy. He has been surrounded by many types of allegations before. Earlier also he was accused of embezzlement of funds and misconduct. However, the allegations against him were not proved in the investigation and he was acquitted of all the charges. Xi has been associated with the temple for more than four decades.

Xi Yongxin came to Shaolin Temple at a very young age in the year 1981 and since 1999 he has been the head of this temple. Xi has been the vice president of the Buddhist Association of China. He has also worked as a representative of the National People’s Congress, the top law-making body of China. In such a situation, he is counted among the influential people.

Why is this temple special?

Shaolin Temple is believed to have been established in 495 AD. This temple is identified as the birthplace of Zen Buddhism and millions of people have faith here. However, this is not the only reason for the fame of this temple. Shaolin Temple is also known as the birthplace of Chinese Kung Fu martial art. Due to the temple martial arts culture, this temple has been mentioned in many films. The name of one of Jet Li’s films is Shaolin Temple.
