Voting for the second and final phase of the three-tier panchayat elections is underway in Uttarakhand. In the second phase, voting is underway in 40 development blocks of 12 districts. The voting process, which started at 8 am, will continue till 5 pm. In the second phase, 1998 candidates are in the fray for 933 posts of Gram Panchayat, 7833 candidates for 2726 posts of Pradhan Gram Panchayat, 4214 candidates for 1225 posts of member area panchayat, 716 candidates for 14 posts of member district panchayat, i.e. a total of 14 thousand 761 candidates are in the fray. About 21 lakh voters are exercising their franchise in the second phase of voting. Let us tell you that the first phase of elections has been completed on 24 July. The results of the Panchayat elections will be declared on 31 July.
Dhami’s appeal
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has appealed to the people of the state to actively participate in the second phase of voting under the three-tier Panchayat elections. He said that panchayats are the foundation of rural development and the participation of every voter in these elections is very important.
The Chief Minister said that development schemes are conducted in rural areas through the three-tier Panchayat system. He has appealed to all the voters, especially the youth, women and senior citizens, to strengthen democracy by reaching the polling stations in large numbers.
