Uttarkashi disaster: Health department on alert, doctors’ leave banned, beds reserved in Doon and AIIMS Rishikesh

After the terrible disaster in Dharali village of Uttarkashi district, the health department has become alert for medical services. The department has cancelled the leave of doctors and sent a team of specialist doctors to the disaster affected area. Beds were reserved in Government Medical College Doon and AIIMS Rishikesh for the treatment of the injured in the disaster.

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that in view of the seriousness of the disaster, a team of specialist doctors was immediately sent to Dharali area. It includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, physicians and orthopedic surgeons. Director of Health Garhwal was appointed as the nodal officer.

The Health Secretary said that under disaster management, instructions have been given to all the major hospitals of the state to keep beds reserved for the treatment of seriously injured patients. Also, the leave of all medical officers and employees has been banned with immediate effect, until the situation becomes normal. It has been ensured that there is no shortage of medicines, surgical material and medical equipment in the hospitals. 108 ambulance services have been kept on high alert. A 24-hour emergency control room was set up in Uttarkashi district.

Instructions to keep health services on alert mode
Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat expressed grief over the damage caused by the disaster in Dharali village and said, instructions were given to the health department to remain on alert mode. Beds have been reserved for treatment in the district hospitals of Uttarkashi, Tehri and Dehradun as well as Doon Medical College and AIIMS Rishikesh. The state government is committed to provide all possible assistance to the disaster-affected people.
