US President Donald Trump has announced an additional 25% duty on products coming from India. After this, the total US tariff on Indian imports has now reached 50% (trump tariffs india). This is the highest compared to any country in the world. India is now placed in this highest category along with Brazil.
Trump says that India is fueling Putin’s “war machine” by continuing to buy cheap crude oil from Russia. This is the reason why he wants to put pressure on India so that any economic support to Russia in the Ukraine war can be ended. Meanwhile, China’s reactions have also come to the fore.
China spoke openly after Trump’s tariff China Reacts To Donald Trump Tariff News
This tariff move of Trump has received reaction not only from India but also from China. China’s ambassador to New Delhi, Shu Feihong, took a dig at America without naming it on social media and wrote, “If you give an inch to a scoundrel, he will take a mile.” This was a direct message that America’s tariff policy is a ploy to put pressure on other countries, which even China does not agree with.
PM Modi’s strong reply
A day after Trump’s tariff attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gave a clear reply. He said that India will not compromise on the interests of its farmers, fishermen and people in the dairy sector at any cost. PM Modi also added that if needed, he is personally ready to pay a heavy price for it.
No compromise against domestic interests
This statement has come at a time when talks are going on between India and America on a bilateral trade agreement. America wants India to open its agriculture and dairy market more for them. But there are clear signals from India that any decision against domestic interests will not be accepted.
