India’s defense production has reached a record high in the financial year 2024-25. The figure has reached Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand 590 crore. This is about 18% more than last year and a huge increase of 90% compared to 2019-20. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed this on Saturday.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has praised the hard work of DPSUs, public sector companies and private industry for this achievement. He said, this is a clear indication that the country’s defense industrial structure is constantly getting stronger.
The Defense Minister praised the ‘collective efforts’, and called it a ‘historic achievement’. The Defense Minister said, “The increasing progress in the field of defense production is a clear indication of India’s strengthening defense industrial base.” —

The Defense Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s defense production has reached a record high. He said, “Annual defense production has increased to an all-time high of Rs 1,50,590 crore in FY 2024-25.” The contribution of public sector and DPSUs is 77% in this. While the contribution of private sector is 23%, which has increased from 21% last year.
The Defense Minister said that policy reforms, ease of doing business and emphasis on indigenization have accelerated this growth. This year the production of DPSUs has increased by 16% and that of the private sector by 28%.
New record in exports too
Defense exports are at an all-time high of Rs 23,622 crore, Rs 2,539 crore more than last year. The government’s aim is to reduce dependence on imports and create a defense industry that meets India’s needs as well as makes its place in the world.

Defence production has reached its highest level of Rs 1,50,590 crore in the financial year 2024-25. This shows an increase of 18 percent compared to Rs 1.27 lakh crore in the previous financial year 2023-24. In the year 2019-20, this figure was Rs 79,071 crore, that is, there has been a tremendous increase of 90 percent in 5 years.
