A new update has come in the Swachhta Samiti salary scam in Doon Municipal Corporation. The city Kotwali police has issued a notice to the former councilors. The police have asked the former councilors to present their side. Also, full details have been sought about the sanitation workers in whose accounts they have given salary.
Dehradun Municipal Corporation Swachhta Karmi Scam Case: It is worth noting that a scam of crores of rupees came to light by showing 99 fake employees in the Swachhta Samiti in Dehradun Municipal Corporation. After this, on 06 June 2025, a case was registered in Dehradun City Kotwali on the basis of the complaint of the Additional Municipal Commissioner.
This is how the fake sanitation worker scam and salary was exposed: Actually, the tenure of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation Board was completed on 02 December 2023. The board was dissolved till the elections. The then District Magistrate Sonika took over the command of the Municipal Corporation as administrator. During this time, the game of fraud in the name of salary of the employees engaged in the cleanliness system of the city by the Municipal Corporation was exposed.
Fake Safai Karamchari Scam Causes Loss of 9 Crore to Government Treasury: After the then CDO Jharna Kamthan was given the responsibility of investigation, the entire matter was investigated and it was found that it was confirmed that salaries were issued in the name of 99 unknown employees in different wards. The employees included in the list provided by the Swachhata Samitis were not found on the spot. Whereas about 09 crore rupees were paid in their name in five years.
The strictness of the Nainital High Court accelerated the investigation: The matter remained suppressed in the Municipal Corporation for about one and a half years. The investigation report kept moving from the District Magistrate’s office to the Municipal Corporation, Urban Development Directorate and the government in the case of salaries being paid for years in the name of 99 fake employees in the Municipal Corporation’s Swachhata Samitis. After the Nainital High Court asked questions, a case was registered in the city police station on June 06 this year on the basis of the complaint of the Additional Municipal Commissioner. The role of the then President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Swachhata Samiti is being investigated by the City Police Station.
Notice to former councillors in sanitation worker salary scam: Nagar Kotwali in-charge Pradeep Pant has said that-
Investigation of the sanitation committee salary scam is going on. In this case, notices have been issued to some former councillors asking them to appear with documents. They have been asked to provide evidence of salary payment and details of the employees whose accounts the salary went to. Also, efforts are being made to reach the homes of the employees in whose name the salary has been released.
