Independence Day 2025: PM Modi hoisted the tricolor at Red Fort

Today, on the 79th Independence Day, PM Modi hoisted the tricolor for the 12th time at the Red Fort. Since the year 2014, he has been addressing the country at the Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day. PM Modi also addressed the countrymen this year and said that this is the great festival of independence of 140 crore people. Which is a moment of collective achievements and pride.

He said that the country is moving forward unitedly and the Constitution of India has been giving the right direction to the country like a lighthouse. Modi recalled the contribution of many leaders and women power including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. Radhakrishnan who contributed to the freedom struggle and the making of the Constitution.
Tribute to Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee
The Prime Minister noted Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee’s 125th birth anniversary and said he was the first great man to sacrifice his life to protect the Constitution. “When we fulfilled the dream of one country, one constitution by removing Article 370, we paid true tribute to Mukherjee ji,” Modi said.
Concern over natural disasters
Referring to the recent natural disasters–landslides, cloudbursts and floods–PM Modi said nature is constantly testing us. He said the central and state governments are working together with full force in relief and rescue operations, and his sympathies are with the affected families.
Tough stand on terrorism and nuclear blackmail
Modi said India has suffered terrorism for decades, but now the situation has changed. “We have decided that there will be no difference between terrorists and those who give them shelter or strength. They are all enemies of humanity,” he said. The Prime Minister warned that India will no longer tolerate threats of nuclear weapons and blackmail.
New record of longest tenure
PM Modi has also achieved a political milestone recently. On 25 July 2025, he broke the record of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for the longest consecutive tenure. After Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi has now become the longest-serving Prime Minister of the country.
