Uttarakhand District Panchayat election ruckus: Opposition leader sits on dharna outside SSP office, accuses kidnapping of members

The ruckus in the District Panchayat President election in Nainital has escalated. Congress has surrounded the government in the matter of kidnapping of five Congress-backed District Panchayat candidates from outside the gate during the elections and indecency with the Leader of Opposition and MLAs. Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and Congress workers have sat on a dharna outside the SSP office. In view of the dharna, a large number of police forces have been deployed on the spot.

Congress leaders are continuously raising slogans against the police administration and the district administration and accusing them of working under the pressure of the government. A lot of resentment is being seen among Congress workers regarding the matter. Congress leaders are demanding the removal of SSP Nainital. During this, Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya said that the Bharatiya Janata Party along with the police and the district administration have tried to kill democracy in the Panchayat elections.

The way an atmosphere of anarchy was created in Nainital, Congress leaders were beaten up. Even five Congress-backed District Panchayat members who had come to vote were kidnapped from outside the District Panchayat office at gunpoint and their whereabouts are not yet known. The court has also taken cognizance of this matter, but the police administration has not been able to find the kidnapped Panchayat members yet. Panchayat members were even kidnapped in front of the police, but the police remained a silent spectator.

On the contrary, the police personnel themselves misbehaved with the Congress workers and leaders. Yashpal Arya said that the Congress’s protest will continue until the police finds and brings the five kidnapped Panchayat members. The Leader of Opposition alleged that the five Congress-supported District Panchayat members who have been kidnapped are being beaten up, due to which their families are also upset. The Leader of Opposition said that the government and the police administration should find and bring the District Panchayat members soon. During this, a large number of Congressmen including Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh, Congress District President Rahul Chhimwal were present.
