A delegation of women Congress officials led by Uttarakhand State Women Congress President Jyoti Rautela met Municipal Corporation Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal. During this, Rautela demanded to shift the garbage management yard located at Kargi in Dharmpur assembly constituency.

In the memorandum submitted to the Dehradun Mayor, Jyoti Rautela said that the residents of the surrounding area, especially women, children and the elderly are extremely suffering from the garbage management yard located at Kargi under Dharmpur assembly constituency. This yard is not only creating an environmental crisis in the area, but has also become a serious threat to public health.
Drawing the attention of the mayor towards the problems arising from the Kargi garbage yard, Rautela said that due to the strong stench emanating from the garbage yard, there is difficulty in breathing, due to which serious respiratory diseases like asthma, allergy, cough and difficulty in breathing are increasing. Rautela said that due to dirt and garbage heaps, there is a danger of serious diseases like mosquitoes, flies, rats, dengue, malaria, typhoid, diarrhea.
Leakage of garbage is polluting water sources: Congress
Leakage of garbage during rainy season is also polluting the surrounding water sources, due to which dirty water flows on the roads and accumulates around the road and school, due to which the risk of skin diseases and infections increases. He said that the students and teachers studying in the local school are facing difficulties due to the smell coming from the garbage. Due to which the study environment is getting affected.
Demand to remove Kargi garbage yard
Rautla also said that in the past, along with the local public, many social organizations have also opposed its transfer many times, but till date no action has been taken. Rautla demanded from the Mayor that the garbage management yard located in Kargi should be immediately shifted to a non-residential, environmentally suitable place.
Rautla demanded that till the garbage yard is shifted elsewhere, odor control, regular spraying and cleaning should be ensured in the yard and a new place should be selected for the garbage dumping zone with the participation of local people, especially women.
