The election results for the Nainital District Panchayat President and Vice President posts have finally come out. BJP candidate Deepa Darmwal won the post of President by defeating Congress candidate Pushpa Negi by just one vote.

Deepa Darmwal got 11 votes while Pushpa Negi got 10 votes. However, one vote was cancelled. The election for the post of Vice President was even more interesting. Here the BJP and Congress candidates got equal votes. After this, a toss was conducted as per the rules. Luck was kind to Congress’s Devki Bisht and she was declared victorious for the post of Vice President.

Five Zila Panchayat members went missing

The political temperature had risen during the voting on August 14. Five Zila Panchayat members suddenly went missing, on which Congress and BJP accused each other of kidnapping. When the matter reached the High Court, the Election Commission was stopped from declaring the results. The results after the counting of votes were kept in a sealed envelope and secured in a double locker.

Congress wins the post of vice-president

In the hearing held in the High Court on August 18, strong displeasure was expressed over the law and order and the SSP was also reprimanded. After this, on Monday, the Election Commission formally announced the results. In this way, the seat of Nainital District Panchayat President went to the account of BJP, while the post of vice-president was secured by Congress.
