The drug business is flourishing rapidly in Uttarakhand. Especially among the youth, the tendency of drug addiction is increasing continuously. In view of which the state government has started the ‘Drugs Free Uttarakhand’ campaign. In this episode, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a high-level meeting regarding the increasing drug addiction in the state. In the meeting, CM Dhami directed the officials to conduct the Drugs Free Uttarakhand campaign on a large scale. So that, the increasing trend of drug addiction in the state can be curbed.

Emphasis on creation of new posts in Anti Narcotics Task Force: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given clear instructions that strict action should be taken against the culprits under the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985). Along with this, the Anti Narcotics Task Force should be made more empowered. New posts should also be created in the Anti Narcotics Task Force as per the need.

National Narcotics Helpline Number You can complain: CM Dhami said that the National Narcotics Helpline ‘Manas’ 1933 should be widely publicized. So that the public can register complaints on it. He directed that the Police, Health Department, Education Department, Social Welfare Department and other related departments should together organize awareness workshops against drug abuse.

Drugs should not be supplied from outside states in Uttarakhand: A detailed action plan has also been prepared for Drugs Free Uttarakhand and action has also been asked to be taken accordingly. CM Dhami clearly said that vigilance should be increased in the border areas and it should be ensured that drugs are not supplied from outside states to Uttarakhand.

Strict action will be taken against drink and drive: Strict action should be taken against the culprits if found involved in drug smuggling. Efforts should also be made to keep the youth away from drugs by running awareness programs in schools and colleges. Apart from this, CM Dhami also directed the police to increase patrolling at night and take strict action against drink and drive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon the countrymen to adopt indigenous goods and build a self-reliant India. Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami had also given instructions that the things used in Uttarakhand, especially in government programs, should be indigenous. In such a situation, during the high-level meeting, CM Dhami has given instructions to run a wide-scale awareness campaign to promote the use of indigenous goods in the state.

Emphasis on promoting the use of indigenous products in Uttarakhand: Not only this, the Urban Development Department was instructed to work as a nodal department to promote the use of indigenous products in Uttarakhand. So that, the inclination of people towards indigenous products can be increased.

The drug de-addiction campaign was started in the state of Uttarakhand on 17 February 2024. The main reason for this campaign was to curb the increasing trend of drug addiction among the youth of the state as well as the large amount of drug being caught in the state. Along with this, the Government of India also started the Drug Free India campaign in the year 2020, under which all the states are adopting this campaign.
