Uttarakhand’s first sports university to be built near Indira Gandhi International Sports Stadium Haldwani has suffered a major setback. Land transfer from the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment has not been received for building a sports university in Haldwani, due to which the construction of the sports university has been put on hold for the time being.

The foundation stone was to be laid on the occasion of National Sports Day: The Union Ministry of Forest and Environment has written a letter to the Sports Department saying that before applying for forest land for the university, the land of the Revenue Department should be searched, because the project is of non-site specific category. Actually, the Uttarakhand government and the Sports Department were planning to gift the state’s first sports university to the state in Gaulapar, Haldwani on the occasion of National Sports Day on August 29, but the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment has put a brake on it.

Land was seen near Haldwani Sports Stadium: The Uttarakhand government had announced the sports university several months ago. For this, land was also seen near the Indira Gandhi International Sports Stadium in Gaulapar, Haldwani. There was a plan to build a sports university on that land, but the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment refused to give its land to the government for the sports university. The foundation stone laying of the university project was to start from August 29.

Recognition has been received from University Grants Commission: It is being told that the Uttarakhand Sports Department has also received recognition from UGC (University Grants Commission) for the university, but land transfer has now become a hindrance in the sports university. The program for laying the foundation stone of the sports university was scheduled on the occasion of International Sports Day on August 29, but now the foundation stone has also been postponed.

The Registrar and Finance Controller have also been appointed: The state government has also appointed the Registrar and Finance Controller for the sports university, but the problem arose due to land. The state government needs about 13 hectares of land to build a sports university. Let us tell you that the government has made preparations on a large scale regarding the sports university.
