Delhiites should be cautious, yellow alert for heavy rain today, clouds will rain with thunder

An alert of torrential rain has been issued in many areas of Delhi today (31 August 2025). According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a yellow alert of rain for areas like East Delhi, Central Delhi, South East Delhi and Shahdara. Along with this, the Meteorological Department has also expressed the apprehension that Delhi-NCR will remain cloudy late in the night and there is a possibility of thunderstorms.
Apart from this, traffic jams may also occur in many areas due to waterlogging. In such a situation, people have been appealed to be cautious.
Temperature remained below average on Saturday
Talking about the weather of the past day, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Saturday (30 August) was recorded at 23.8 degree Celsius. This is 2.7 degrees Celsius less than the average temperature. The Meteorological Department has predicted the maximum temperature to be around 33 degrees Celsius on Sunday (31 August).
Clouds will remain in Delhi for the next 5 days
According to the IMD, monsoon is likely to remain active in Delhi for the next 5 days. On Sunday, 31 August, the sky will be cloudy in the early hours and light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely. The maximum temperature will be between 31-33 degrees Celsius.
Yamuna river also above danger mark
The Yamuna river in Delhi has crossed the danger mark, and is likely to rise further before the water recedes by Sunday evening. On Saturday evening, the water level of the Yamuna river at the old railway bridge reached 205.52 meters, which is above the danger mark of 205.33 meters.
The officials are keeping a close watch on the water level of the Yamuna. Precautionary steps are being taken to deal with a flood-like situation, as the water level is also expected to rise further.
Evacuation takes place when it reaches 206 meters
Tents have been set up on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and in Mayur Vihar to temporarily accommodate people living in low-lying areas near the river. The water level of the Yamuna was 205.52 meters at 8.00 pm. The water warning level for the city is 204.5 metres and the danger mark is 205.3 metres, with evacuation starting at 206 metres.
