Uttarakhand: Jyotirmath plunged into darkness, Niti Valley cut off from communication, 34 families displaced in Nandanagar

The calamity raining from the sky on the mountain has once again brought life to a standstill. Torrential rain has caused havoc from the border Jyotirmath to Nandanagar. At some places the power supply has stopped and at other places roads and bridges have been washed away. Markets are on the verge of being destroyed due to landslides and people are forced to spend the night in terror.

Jyotirmath immersed in darkness

Jyotirmath has been in darkness since late night. The 66 KV Pitkul line on the Karnaprayag-Chamoli road and the 33 KV line of the Birhi Ganga Hydro Project broke down, due to which the power supply of the entire block was disrupted. In the area immersed in darkness, people are facing difficulties even in charging mobile phones and running essential equipment. At the same time, the Badrinath National Highway is blocked due to debris in Bhanedapani and Pagalnala near Joshimath. The administration has started the work of opening the road by installing machinery, but the situation is worsening due to continuous rain.

Niti-Malari valley disconnected

The connection between Niti-Malari valley has been completely disconnected due to the washing away of the bridge of Tamak Nala. Dozens of seasonal migratory villages and border areas of the valley have now become completely isolated. The flocks of shepherds who come to graze goats in summer are also unable to reach the border road. The concern of the villagers living here has increased because even the supply of essential food grains and medicines is in danger.

Landslide in Nandanagar has disturbed the sleep of the people

On the other hand, the land subsidence in Nandanagar has disturbed the sleep of the people. The continuous subsidence from Palpani Tok of Band Bazaar area has spread panic in the entire area. A four-room house and four cow sheds have collapsed. Cracks up to one foot deep have appeared in the fields and many trees have been uprooted from their roots and have been submerged in the subsidence. In view of the danger, the administration has shifted 34 families to safer places. 7 families have been accommodated in the Baraat Ghar on Banjbagad Road and 34 people have been accommodated in the Baraat Ghar on Bhenti Road. Whereas 14 families have returned to their villages and 3 families have found houses on rent.

Local people are demanding a permanent solution

The condition of Band Bazar is the most worrying. About 25 shops here are in danger. Nandanagar Vyapar Sangh President Nandan Singh says that the market is closed and people are afraid to open the shops. Traders say that if the rain continues like this, a large part of the market can be covered in debris. In Nandanagar, people have left their homes and are spending the night in temporary camps. The administration has set up relief camps in Baraat Ghar for the affected families. Local people are demanding a permanent solution from the administration.
