The continuous torrential rains in Uttarakhand have now started showing their effect in Haldwani city as well. The water level of the Gaula river has risen rapidly to 48 thousand cusecs, which is above the danger mark. This strong flow has rung the alarm bells in the lower areas of the Terai.
People living on the river bank shifted to safer places
The administration has issued an alert in the villages and settlements situated on the river bank and has started the process of shifting people to safer places. Many families have been sent to temporary camps as a precaution to avoid any untoward incident. Meanwhile, the police, administration and SDRF teams have been kept on alert mode round the clock.
An atmosphere of panic among the local people
There is an atmosphere of panic among the local people regarding the rising water level of the river. The administration has appealed to the public not to pay attention to rumors and follow the government instructions while being fully alert. On the other hand, in view of the bad weather, the government has postponed the Chardham Yatra including Hemkund Sahib Yatra till September 5.

Apart from this, there is a possibility of extremely heavy rain in Dehradun, Chamoli and Bageshwar districts on 2nd September. A red alert has been issued for these districts.
