Recently, a private survey company P Value Analytics included Dehradun among the 10 most unsafe cities in the country in its report (NARI-2025). Dehradun Police and State Women’s Commission have objected to this report.

Police called the report calling Dehradun unsafe as misleading

Dehradun Police held a press conference and clearly said that this report has been conducted neither by the National Women’s Commission nor by the State Women’s Commission. Rather, it has been prepared by a private company on its own, which is not based on actual crime figures but on assumptions. According to SSP Ajay Singh, in this survey, the conclusion has been drawn by talking to only 400 women over the phone as compared to the nine lakh female population of Dehradun. That is, the sample of this survey is very small and impractical.

SSP presented the figures

According to the SSP, the data kept at the DGP level clearly states that more than 1.25 lakh women are registered on the Gaura Shakti app for women’s safety in Dehradun, out of which 16,649 women are from Dehradun district only. Out of the 12,354 complaints received on Dial 112 in the month of August, 2,287 were related to women. Out of these, 1,664 complaints were of domestic disputes. Only 11 complaints were registered related to molestation.

SSP claims special arrangements for women’s safety in Dehradun

According to the SSP, the average response time of the police in women’s complaints is 13 minutes. SSP Ajay Singh said that special arrangements have been made for women’s safety in Dehradun. 14,000 CCTV cameras are active in the city. While pink booths have been set up in crowded areas. Apart from this, women help desk, helpline and women cheetah police patrolling are active. Women safety camps are organized from time to time in schools, colleges and workplaces.

On the basis of police patrolling, Dehradun’s score is higher than Kohima: SSP

Giving information, the SSP said that in this survey, Kohima has been declared the safest city, while on the basis of police patrolling, Dehradun’s score is even higher than that. Similarly, Dehradun’s score regarding safety of women in public places is better than the national average. SSP says that Dehradun is a peaceful and safe city.

Methodology and figures of the report are not strong: SSP

SSP said that a large number of students from India and abroad come here to study and a large number of tourists also come throughout the year. This is proof that the city is safe for women and outsiders. SSP Ajay Singh said that any survey should be respected, but unless its methodology and figures are strong, policy decisions cannot be based on such surveys.
